On 24 April 2020, the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office in the Hague ( SPO) filed to the Kosovo Specialist Chambers ( KSC) a 10 – count Indictment for Court’s consideration. Accordingly, the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Hashim THAÇI, the former Speaker of the Kosovo Assembly, Mr. Kadri VESELI and many others are charged with a range of crimes against humanity and war crimes; among them, murder, enforced disappearance of persons, persecution and torture.
Without prejudicing the international justice, these accusations cannot overshadow the Kosovo liberation struggle, as one of the most brilliant pages of the resistance of Albanians for freedom.
The Council of Albanian Ambassadors shares the profound belief that the struggle of the Kosovo Liberation Army was and will be confirmed clean and righteous by international justice, since the KLA fought to defend the people of Kosovo from the Serbian terror, liquidation and genocide. In our judgment, the victim can never be identified with the criminal.
Notwithstanding the current circumstances, we are fully confident that the people and the representatives of the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo , as well as the whole Albanian people wherever they are will be more unified than ever and cooperate with our European and American friends to keep on the Euro-Atlantic track, as the sole alternative for Albanians and our entire region.
Meanwhile, any interference by other actors and factors that would tempt to hamper this route would be fraught with serious effects for peace, security and stability in our region and on a wider scale.
